Martin Polland

Network Manager North, Transport Scotland

Martin has been a member of the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) for approximately 25 years and has made a significant contribution to the profession throughout his career. He previously served as President of the IHE and chaired the Scottish Branch for a number of years, helping to support and develop the highways engineering community across Scotland.

Martin has also played a leading role in recognising excellence within the sector, serving as Head Judge of the Highways Awards in both 2022 and 2023.

With 39 years of engineering experience, the majority of which has been spent within the highways sector, Martin has developed extensive expertise in the management and operation of strategic road networks. He is currently Network Manager North for Transport Scotland, where he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of trunk road activities across a vast area extending from Stirling to the far north of Scotland. In this role, he provides leadership and strategic oversight to ensure the safe, efficient and effective management of Scotland's trunk road network.
